Queer, Black Owned Plant Store Opens in Oakland

New queer, Black owned art garden, plant store and event space opens in Oakland on Broadway.

Ramsess Art Garden, owned by Malik Ramsess, is now open just outside of downtown Oakland on Broadway. The plant store, which also doubles as an art garden and event space, is the perfect spot to pick up a new house plant for your space.

For Malik, his plant store was a long time coming. “I’ve always wanted to open up my own plant shop,” Malik explains. “I used to be an event coordinator for a long time, so I knew I wanted a place that I could have plants, but also host other artists and events.”

Browse through African and queer themed art prints and pieces, all curated by Malik. Some of the art comes straight from his roots, with many pieces hand-created by his dad. If you’re looking for community, Ramsess Art Garden has you covered with their event calendar, including candle making, sip and paints, and more.

“I find in the Bay Area, there aren’t that many Black owned, or queer owned event spaces. I wanted to create something community based where other queer artists of color could feel safe to reach out, and they’d know that they’d be represented.”

Check them out 2511 Broadway, Oakland, and visit them on their website.
