Meet a New Women’s Weekend Russian River

SPONSORED POST

As summer rolls in, so does many Bay Area queers’ favorite time of year. We’re talking San Francisco’s pride parties. Oakland’s Soulovely season. Parties at El Rio. When it comes to larger California LGBTQ+ festivals based, we all know about Dinah Shore, but did you know Northern California has its own LGBTQ+ festival just 1.5 hours north of the SF Bay Area?

Women’s Weekend Russian River, the premier Northern California LGBTQIA+ women and queer femme centered event, kicks off their 2024 festival May 16 – 20 in Guerneville, California, a quaint town famous for its relaxing rivers and super gay-friendly energy.

For more than 35 years, Russian River Women’s Weekend has been the first major LGBTQIA+ festival in California to kick off any sapphic summer. But this year, they’re back under new leadership and a whole new inclusive vibe, THICK with fun, flirty and diverse programming.

Led by Bay Area event producers and drag performers Jodi Goldstein (aka Miss Shugana) (she/her), and Tressa Young (aka Madd-Dogg 20/20) (she/her, but he/him in drag), Women’s Weekend is going through an exciting rebirth. The duo – partnered both in life and in business has a simple goal: to make Women’s Weekend a welcoming event for everyone while celebrating the entire beautiful spectrum of LGBTQIA+ women, and to create a variety of programming that offers something for everyone. The outcome? A truly unforgettable summer weekend.

“We are really proud to be the new producers of Women’s Weekend Russian River and to continue the legacy,” says Jodi. “We feel a large sense of responsibility and are so excited to bring in new energy. We have a really great committee working alongside us as well.”

If you’ve never been to Women’s Weekend Russian River, this is definitely a great year to check it out for the first time. “Expect to be entertained,” says Tressa. “Expect to be welcomed and to meet long-lasting new friends. We have people coming from all over – not just the Bay Area.”

While Women’s Weekend Russian River draws attendees and top-notch acts from all over the nation, attendees from the Bay Area can look forward to seeing their favorite DJ’s, including Lady Ryan, drag acts and burlesque performers in a scenic setting that perfectly straddles the line between relaxing and fun.

But beyond high-energy queer parties, you can also plan for chill outdoor movies and bonfires, flirty dating games, restorative daily yoga, an intimate live unplugged performance, supportive trans meetups and recovery meetings and of course sexy pool parties in the sun.
